Germany is a country, and Bavaria is a federal state within the country of Germany. Bavaria is the largest federal state in Germany and is located in the southeastern portion of the country. Its capital city is Munich. Some other cities in Bavaria include Augsburg, Nuremberg and Bamberg. [1]

Bavaria is known for its picturesque scenery, including lakes, parks, forests, vineyards and the Alps. Mount Zugspitze, located in Bavaria, is the tallest peak in Germany. Medieval castles, lavish palaces and baroque churches intermingle with modern, urban centers. [2] Known as the Beer State [1], Bavaria hosts the world-renowned Oktoberfest in Munich. [2]
