Warner Brothers does have plans to make a movie or series of movies based on The Stand. A series of directors and screenwriters have worked on the project since 2011. Originally, David Yates was set to direct and Steve Kloves would write the screenplay. They left the project in 2011 and were replaced by Ben Affleck.

Affleck dropped out when he was cast as Batman and was replaced by Scott Cooper. After Cooper left the project, the studio hired Josh Boone as writer and director. He is currently working on the film and reports that the studio may produce not one, but as many as four separate movies based on the book.

In addition, there are reports that an eight-part miniseries may be produced for television first. This would lead up to the release of the first film based on the book.

Whether this current attempt to make a feature film of The Stand is any more successful than previous attempts remains to be seen. Personally, I will believe it when it is actually in theaters.
