If I were to play games, make comments as I do so, what can I make? What are the payment rates when you join as a partner with Youtube?

The pay rate of a Youtuber varies wildly based on view count, ad buys, time of year, and many other factors.

I have been doing Youtube gaming content for years and tend to get in the realm of $0.75-$1.10 per 1000 views. This varies extremely by the contract. It is hard to get solid data for payment since networks like to keep it hushed up, but you can see on popular Youtuber Pewdiepie's Socialblade stats that the site estimates anywhere from $0.27-$4.36 per 1000 views on his channel[1]. Generally speaking, the more views per day you accrue, the more revenue share networks will be willing to pay, but it will certainly be somewhere in the ballpark of Socialblade's wide estimate.

Keep in mind that starting out will be tough, and getting even that 1000 views will be a lot of work. The average Gaming video gets 3000 views on Youtube[2], and almost the entirety of that is concentrated in the few very high view channels. Most Youtubers put out videos for months getting less than 100 views per video, and some go on that way for years. Do not expect to earn any money from your Youtube at first. Just keep at it and have fun, and if you get very lucky, it may be a hobby that pays you a bit every month!
