I am so excited for New Year's Eve! My son will be five, so for the first time, we are celebrating with him. He won't stay up until midnight; I think his "ball drop" will be at 9:30, which is still plenty late for him (two hours past his bedtime!).
I found some great activities on Pinterest. The first thing we are doing is not really an "activity," but my son will love it just the same. I'm preparing a menu of food that he loves (lots of finger foods, like crackers, cheeses, meats and fruits), and we are going to have kid "mocktails" for him to drink ! I'm going to melt white chocolate and dip the rims of a few glasses in the chocolate. I'll then dip the rim in sprinkles, to create a festive glass. Once that is done, I'm going to fill the glasses with apple juice. A few will have gummy bears in the bottom, while the others will have a piece of rock candy (turned upside down, so the wooden stick comes out of the liquid).
My other plan is to blow up a variety of balloons and use them to help count down to the New Year . Each balloon will have a printed sheet of paper inside with an activity to do (put on a magic show, light sparklers, play a game, etc). On the outside of the balloon with be a time (like 7:15). At the appointed time, my little guy gets to pop the balloon and we complete the activity that is inside.
Have fun on New Year's Eve!
