How do you stop a dog from snoring?

My dog (a Boxer) sleeps in a crate in our bedroom, and she snores incredibly loudly. Whenever we move the crate to another room, she gets upset; she whines and cries all night, and bangs on the crate door trying to get out. Is there anything I can do to cut down on the noise?

There are many reasons as to why your dog may be snoring. Figuring out what is causing the snoring is key to reducing the snoring. For example, allergens could be the cause. When this is the case, you have to do your best to reduce these allergens. Regularly change her bedding, vacuum regularly, and keep dust away. [1]

There are also a number of effective, healthy medications that can help reduce your dog's snoring. Many of these products contain minerals and other natural substances that help open up your dog's airways, lessening the snoring. Be sure to speak with a veterinarian before giving your dog this medication, though. [2]

There are six steps you can take to prevent dog snoring, but not all apply to every home and situation.

1) If allergens are the issue, clean the dog's bedding on a daily basis. Only take him on outdoor walks when there's low levels of pollen and traffic. Regular vacuuming helps immensely.

2) Don't smoke around your dog. Better yet, don't smoke indoors at all.

3) Use a product like Snore-Stop.

4) Vets can sometimes do surgery when a breed that is predisposed to snoring is still at a young age.

5) Regular exercise and weight loss sometimes reduces snoring in dogs, just like in people.

6) Try repositioning your dog's physical sleeping pose. Do this through a change in bedding or possibly even a pillow to elevate the head.
