I am a huge fan of the Tasty Kake brand. I had not heard of them until I was living in Texas and looking at company stocks for investment purposes. I noticed that at one point the stock was selling under five dollars a share, but they were seemingly a great company, perhaps with an undervalued stock. Having lived in three different states throughout my life that didn't sell these snack cakes and other various desserts, I had no personal experience as a consumer. Still, the brand from a business standpoint sounded like a good deal to me.
When I moved to South Carolina, I became personally familiar with the brand, and that's when I became a huge fan. I would have to say my favorite snacks of theirs, I can't pick one, are the cinnamon rolls and the Tasty-Klair Baked Pie. A close second would be the various small donuts they sell, like the powdered, chocolate and cinnamon donuts. Nationwide, Hostess and Little Debbie still win, but there is a unique appeal to this brand and the snacks it offers. It's like the brand is less commercialized and has more unique products. The company was acquired by Flowers Foods in 2011 for 165 million dollars, and they continue to expand their offerings.
Tasty Kake's cinnamon rolls are actually called 'Sweet Rolls.' They have 'Dreamies' as the alternative to Twinkies. Ding Dongs are one of my favorite Hostess snack cakes, and Tasty Kake has 'Chocolate Bells' as the substitute. Some of their snacks are similar of course, but you'll still see unique touches on most of those snack items as well. Kandy Kakes are a unique item they offer, and there are four different kinds of them, including Dark Chocolate Peanut Butter Kandy Kakes. Now, if you'll excuse me, it's time to get some exercise after talking about all that junk food. In all seriousness, this brand has some great snacks. Tasty Kake celebrated it's 100th birthday in 2014.
Now to my surprise, I found a Tasty Kake commercial from the 1970's featuring none other than Betty White.
