This is a fascinating question.

Many people have surnames that are "unusual" because of their length, pronunciation, or meaning.

In general, the surname might bring about a few incidents of name-calling and other additional concerns, but the real problem can be psychological for the person.

Society internally promotes the idea of "nominative determinism" which relates to a person's last name determining what they do in their life [1]. This means certain people are supposed to be athletes, politicians, and scientists. This can impact a person that has an odd name that does not fit in with the rest of the group.

There was also a study done on bad baby names and how they can impact the development of a child. The same goes for last names as they are carried with a person forever as well [2]. This can lead to issues with confidence and self-respect.
