Kat Von D was working at Chris Garver at True Tattoo where she was recommended to try her luck at Miami Ink. At the time, the TLC Network was filming a show at the shop. Kat ended up getting the job and became a regular on the show. This is how she became a well-known tattoo artist.
After having a falling out with Miami Ink owner Ami James, Kat moved to Hollywood, California where she opened up her own tattoo shop, High Voltage Tattoo. TLC ended up creating a show chronicling Kat as she worked at her shop. She set a Guinness World Record by creating the most tattoos in one day (400).
