Infantile seborrheic dermatitis or cradle cap is a common condition that affects most of the newborn babies. It is a condition that is characterized by yellow patchy skin on the scalp. It is not contagious or itchy. The exact cause of the condition is not known yet. But experts believe that it occurs due to antibiotics taken by the mother during pregnancy, hormones passed from mother to child, and oily skin. Here are some of the most effective home remedies for this condition.

Shea butter is a natural remedy for this condition. Shea butter will be easily absorbed by the baby's tender skin without leaving any greasy residue. It doesn't clog the pores of the skin. Rub a little shea butter into the affected area and leave it for about 20 minutes. Wash the scalp with baby shampoo. Coconut oil is another effective remedy for cradle cap. Rub a little coconut oil on the affected area and cover the area with a piece of clean cloth. Use a soft comb or brush to remove the flakes on the scalp. Olive oil is another home remedy for this condition. Apply some olive oil and leave it for 15 minutes. The oil will soak the crusty flakes which can be easily removed with a soft comb.
