The clutch system is an important part of your car. When the clutch goes bad, you may have difficulty in shifting to new gears. This can cause the engine to overwork in lower gears. Here are important signs that will tell you if your car has a bad clutch.

Listen to the engine when you are shifting gears. If you hear a rattling noise when shifting gears, the clutch may be slipping. There can also be a grinding noise when shifting gears. On the other hand, if you find it difficult to shift gears, your clutch could be beginning to fail. Watch the RPM meter while you accelerate the car. Are the RPMs steadily climbing though the car barely accelerates?  This is another sign that your clutch is failing.  Pedal resistance is another sign of diagnosing a clutch issue in a manual transmission. If there is no pedal resistance while you shift the gears, it is a sign of a bad clutch.
