Chiggers live in all parts of the world. They are mostly found in forests, parks, gardens, grassy fields, and areas around rivers. Chiggers live in plants that are close to the ground surface since they need a high level of humidity to live. These insects can be seen only with a magnifying glass. However, you will feel the symptoms of a chigger bite immediately. Swelling, rashes, itching and red bumps are the common symptoms of a chigger bite. Although chigger bites may not be harmful to your health, it can be quite uncomfortable and make it difficult to sleep. Here are some ways that you can treat chigger bites.

Cold compresses help relieve the itching associated with chigger bites. The numbing effects of a cold compress will help in this regard. Wrap some ice cubes in a clean cloth. Apply this compress to the affected area for about ten minutes. Repeat the process as necessary throughout the day. Baking soda is another effective remedy for this condition. It reduces itching as well as the risk of infection. Dissolve two teaspoons of baking soda in a little hot water. Apply the paste to the affected area and leave it for 10-15 minutes before rinsing off with cold water. Do it twice a day for best results. Apple cider vinegar helps you get rid of swelling and itching associated with a chigger bite. ACV has antiseptic and anti-itching properties which will help deal with the condition.
