Fasting, in my opinion, is done for spiritual reasons. I have fasted throughout my life at different times, but this year's fast in 2018 has been the ultimate experience. When people fast, they mostly think about giving up food, but there are other things people give up, too. For example, people give up social media and television. Additionally, when giving up food, you can do so in many ways. A few examples are a liquid fast, the Daniel Fast and a fast based on Jewish customs, which allows you to eat one meal a day after 6 pm.
You can also fast to where you eat more than one meal a day, but you leave certain foods or food types out. Fasting is all about disconnecting from the world and connecting even more closely with God. There are many additional benefits to fasting, both physical and mental benefits. This year, myself and four of my family members decided to join a corporate church fast along with hundreds of thousands of Christians worldwide. This corporate church fast is headed up every year by Jentezen Franklin, pastor of Free Chapel. You can find a link to his site below in the sources section of this post. He has numerous resources available to help you get started fasting.
