Ovarian cancer results in more deaths each year than any other type of reproductive cancer, largely because it is difficult to detect until it has spread to other parts of the body. [1]

The symptoms of ovarian cancer are generally vague and easy to overlook. Here is a list of some of the most common: [2]

  • Bloating
  • Pelvic pain
  • Abdominal pain
  • Feeling full quickly after eating
  • Urinary urgency (feeling like you have to go to the bathroom more often or more urgently than normal)

All of these symptoms can be attributed to other conditions, which is why they are often overlooked until it is too late. Other symptoms that you may experience include:

  • Fatigue
  • Pain during sexual intercourse
  • Pain in your back
  • Changes in your menstrual cycle
  • Constipation
  • An upset stomach
  • Unexplained weight gain or a swollen abdomen that is accompanied by weight loss

Again, however, these symptoms are commonly associated with other conditions, and thus are often ignored or dismissed. If you are experiencing any of the symptoms of ovarian cancer, it is important to see your doctor right away. They can help you determine whether the symptoms are related to cancer, or whether they are being caused by some other less serious condition.

Because there are no standard screening tests for ovarian cancer, it is important to really listen to your body. Pay attention to subtle changes, and don't hesitate to discuss your concerns with your doctor. By being proactive, you stand a better chance of catching the cancer in the early stages when it is easier to treat.

Female reproductive system is generally known as ovary that has size and shape like an almond. The "ovarian cancer" defined as several forms of cancer take place from cells of the ovary. Normally, tumors started from the ovary’s lining cells or epithelium.  Its important to identify this cancer early, which increases the chance for recovery. In initial phase women doesn’t observe any symptoms, but as the disease progresses the symptoms become vibrant and become hard to treat. If any women feels lower abdomen pain, heavy feeling in the pelvis, frequent vagina bleeding and abnormal periods, then its time to go for effective diagnostics. Doctors will usually perform a pelvic test, ultrasound, or a biopsy to identify the disease. After proper diagnosis, they will develop a comprehensive treatment plan which could work effectively.
