The beautiful Smoky Mountains are rather large (they take up pretty much the whole border of North Carolina and Tennessee), so it really depends where in the Smoky Mountains you are referring to. [1]

In general, however, there are many cheap things you can do throughout this mountain range. You can hike one of the many majestic mountains, go for a swim in a stream, or visit one of its many caves. The Smoky Mountains are also famous for its arts and crafts community, so you may want to visit one of its many markets! [2]

I live approximately an hour from the TN/NC line, so the whole park is within driving distance. You know what they say...you never think to do things near your home. :) Any other advice you run across would be much appreciated :)
I know exactly what you mean. I am in North Carolina myself, about 2 and a half hours from the border and I would love to visit The Smoky Mountains, as well.

A great idea that is definitely inexpensive would be to rent a bicycle and ride through the park. The views are absolutely amazing! You could also go to Cades Cove Riding Stables; here, you can take a 2-hour hayride for $12! [2]

Fishing is a free activity, too. All you would need is a fishing license, which is very cheap and lasts for one year. Just buy the bait and hit up one of the very many streams or rivers in the park. Fishing is allowed until sunset. [3].

I am hoping one of these ideas helps!

We plan on hiking next week in Cades Cove. Didn't even think about renting a bike! Oh and a hay ride sounds like soooo much fun :)
